  These photos were taken onto the Ruaka Marae at Ranana on 5 December 2015 by Harvey Bell (G-grandson of Hohi) supported by Bobby Gray (a G-G-grandson, from the first family, Te Manihera, down the Ngatoka line - explained further on), Roland Bell (Harvey's youngest brother), his son Rio together with Hamish Horsley, a descendant of Stuart Manson's older brother (by 7 years) George.

Hohi Matene (Mrs S H Manson) holding her mokopuna Rio Bell (Harvey's father), (circa 1910), the first son (3rd child) of her youngest child Jean (Tini), b. 1875, d. 1927. This is the only known image of Hohi.

Hohi's eldest, Te Pura McGregor's (nee Te Manihera) father was Maui Te Manihera, Chief of Ngā Poutama had been killed at Moutua in 1864. Pura had two sisters only one (Ngatoka) of whom survived and had issue.

  Hohi's eldest child
Pura Te Manihera was born in 1855, married Gregor McGregor in 1879 and died in 1920.  She was the first Māori woman to be awarded the OBE for her many good works including raising £38,000 (around $4m in today's money) in six weeks in 1919 as a Carnival Queen for returned servicemen.  She was also active on the Whanganui Beautification Society.

  Hohi's grandfather
Te Mawae b. circa 1797, d. 1882
Hohi's paternal grandfather who, together with his sister Rere-o-maki (mother of Major Kemp - the first Māori Officer in the British Army) and older brother Te Anaua (Hori Kingi), was a Treaty signatory and also signed the Deed of Sale for the land on which Whanganui now sits.

  There is a factual error in the extract linked above. It is generally accepted that Te Anaua had no issue.
